 Sightsmap is an interactive heatmap that shows the most photographed sightseeing spots in the world.It was created by Estonian computer scientist Tanel Tammet and used data and photographs from Panoramio,a location-based photo sharing site. Panoramio lets people tag photos of landmarks or landscapes and upload them to Google Maps.

Sightsmap showing the ‘hotness’ of a location , it reveals the number of photos taken of it on Google’s Panoramio.In the heat map – dark areas represent locations that have few photos, red areas have more and the yellow areas have a large number of geo-tagged photos.It also allow users to take virtual trips of the parts of the world that people love to photograph and search the map to find the top places , including the most photographed 1,000 locations in a country.

Clicking on hottest places on the heat map displays the Panoramio photos at the location, Streetview, information from Wikipedia, Wikivoyage, Foursquare and Google plus articles about the location.

But it’s obviously that sightsmap is based on the demographic of people who use Panoramio.Although, it surely gives you a sense of where people like to go when they want to photograph something famous ,interesting and beautiful.
